What to Ask a Venue Before Booking a Bouncy Castle Party
Before you pay a deposit for a hall or function room, it is worth checking that the venue is actually suitable for the bouncy castle and party setup you have in mind.
A venue can look spacious in photos and still have low beams, narrow doors, fixed furniture or restrictions on inflatables. Asking the right questions before you book can save a lot of hassle later.
This guide covers the main things to ask the venue manager before confirming your party.
Do You Allow Bouncy Castles Indoors?
This should always be your first question.
Do not assume that a hall permits inflatables simply because it hosts children's parties. Some venues may have restrictions on the type, size or position of inflatable equipment they allow.
Ask whether:
- bouncy castles are permitted;
- there are any size limits;
- there is a preferred setup area;
- the venue needs details from the hire company;
- there are any electrical or insurance requirements.
If the venue allows inflatables, the next step is checking whether the room is big enough.
What Are the Usable Floor Dimensions?
Ask for the clear usable floor space rather than just the overall room dimensions.
A room may be advertised as 30ft x 20ft, but that space can be reduced by:
- stages;
- fixed seating;
- radiators;
- serving counters;
- pillars;
- storage areas;
- tables and chairs;
- doorways that must remain clear.
If you can visit the venue before booking, it is better to measure the clear area yourself.
Our guide to measuring a hall for an indoor bouncy castle explains exactly what to record.
What Is the Lowest Ceiling Height?
The ceiling height is just as important as the floor space.
Ask the venue for the lowest usable height above the proposed setup area, not just the highest point in the room.
You should also ask whether there are:
- beams;
- hanging lights;
- projectors;
- speakers;
- heaters;
- sports equipment;
- other suspended fittings.
What height does a hall need for a bouncy castle? goes into this in more detail.
Can a Low-Height Bouncy Castle Be Used Instead?
If the hall has limited overhead clearance, it may still be suitable for one of our Low Height Bouncy Castles.
How Wide Are the Doors and Access Routes?
A bouncy castle might fit inside the hall but still be impossible to get through the entrance.
We normally need clear access at least 2.6ft wide, and some larger inflatables can require up to 3ft.
Ask the venue about:
- the main entrance width;
- internal door widths;
- corridors;
- tight turns;
- steps;
- lift access if relevant.
If the route is unusual or restricted, let us know before booking.
Is There a Suitable Mains Power Supply?
Indoor inflatables need a standard mains electricity supply for the blower.
Ask where the nearest suitable socket is in relation to the proposed setup area. Jump N Joy Castles carries 25m extension leads as standard and can provide up to 50m where required if arranged in advance.
If the nearest socket is in another room or behind a closed door, mention that before the day.
What Time Can the Hire Company Enter?
One of the easiest things to overlook is setup time.
Do not book the hall only for the exact two or three hours of the children's party. The equipment needs to be delivered, taken into the room and installed before guests arrive.
Ask:
- what time you can enter the venue;
- when the room will be clear;
- whether another event is taking place immediately beforehand;
- whether there are restrictions on delivery times.
What Time Must the Equipment Be Removed?
Collection matters just as much as setup.
If another booking follows yours immediately, the venue may expect the room to be completely clear by a certain time. Make sure the booking window allows enough time for the party itself and for equipment to be collected afterwards.
Can Tables and Chairs Be Moved?
Ask whether furniture is fixed or movable and whether the venue expects you to put it back afterwards.
This affects how much usable space you actually have. A room may look large on a floor plan but feel much smaller once twenty chairs and several tables are in position.
If you are planning a bouncy castle plus other equipment, this becomes even more important.
Can You Add Soft Play to the Same Venue?
If babies and toddlers are attending, Soft Play can be a useful separate activity.

Planning for Younger Children?
The Multicoloured Soft play and Ball pit is available for £90 and is for indoor use.
Ask whether there is enough floor space to create a separate toddler area away from the bouncy castle entrance.

If you are deciding between the two types of entertainment, soft play or bouncy castle: which is better for my child's party? can help.
Can Didi Cars Be Used in the Hall?
If you want Didi Cars, ask what type of flooring the venue has and whether there is enough clear room to use them safely.
Didi Cars need a suitable smooth, hard indoor floor. They should not be used on grass.
The 4 x Didi cars can work well in a separate indoor area, while the 6 x Didi Cars & Race Track needs more space.
Is There Enough Room for a Party Package?
If you want one of our Party Packages, the venue needs to accommodate the complete setup, not just the bouncy castle.
Does the Venue Have Any Restrictions on Decorations?
This is worth checking if you are planning balloons, banners or themed decorations around the room.
Keep all decorations away from the inflatable, blower, access points and electrical equipment. Avoid hanging anything where it could interfere with the setup area.
Can You Bring Your Own Food?
Some halls include a kitchen or food preparation area, while others may restrict outside catering.
Ask whether:
- you can bring your own food;
- there is a fridge;
- there is a kettle or kitchen;
- tables are included;
- you need to remove all rubbish afterwards.
This is not directly related to the inflatable, but it can make a big difference to how easy the party is to organise.
Is Parking Available for Guests?
Parking is useful for families, but also think about delivery access. If the entrance is a long distance from the nearest vehicle access, let us know.
A hall with easy unloading can make setup considerably more straightforward than one where equipment needs to be moved through a large building or down a long path.
Does the Venue Have Enough Space for the Party as a Whole?
The inflatable should not consume every usable part of the room.
You still need room for:
- children to move between activities;
- adult supervision;
- tables and chairs;
- food and drinks;
- coats and presents;
- clear entrances and exits.
How much space do you need for a bouncy castle? is useful if you are unsure how to balance the inflatable footprint with the rest of the room.
