Indoor Bouncy Castle Hire: A Complete Guide for Parents

Indoor Bouncy Castle Hire: A Complete Guide for Parents

An indoor bouncy castle party takes much of the uncertainty out of organising a children's birthday. You are not relying on a dry garden, children have somewhere warm to play, and suitable halls can provide plenty of room for bouncing, party food and other entertainment.

There is still some planning involved. The inflatable has to fit the room properly, ceiling height matters, access needs to be suitable and the venue must allow bouncy castles. This guide explains what parents should check before booking an indoor inflatable and how to choose equipment that works with the space available.

Can You Really Put a Bouncy Castle Indoors?

Yes, provided the venue and inflatable are suitable. Community halls, village halls, function rooms and other indoor spaces can all potentially accommodate a bouncy castle, but the room needs to provide sufficient floor space, overhead clearance, power and access for installation.

If you are considering an indoor booking for the first time, our guide to putting a bouncy castle indoors explains the basic requirements in more detail.

Indoor hire is particularly useful for birthdays during autumn and winter. If your party falls during the colder part of the year, you may also find our guide to autumn and winter bouncy castle hire useful when comparing your options.

How Much Floor Space Does an Indoor Bouncy Castle Need?

Do not choose an inflatable based only on the dimensions printed in its name. A 12ft x 12ft bouncy castle needs more than a 12ft x 12ft patch of clear floor because additional room is required around the equipment for installation and safe use.

When measuring a hall, look at the usable floor area. Stages, fixed seating, radiators, storage cupboards, serving areas, doorways and furniture can all reduce the space that is actually available.

Our hall measuring guide takes you through the process of recording useful room dimensions. You can also read how much space a bouncy castle needs before comparing products.

Why Is Ceiling Height So Important Indoors?

Floor measurements are only half of the job. You also need to know the lowest usable ceiling height above the proposed inflatable position.

Look for anything that projects down into the room, including:

  • ceiling beams;
  • light fittings;
  • projectors and speakers;
  • basketball hoops or sports equipment;
  • decorations or suspended fittings.

A hall can look very spacious while still being unsuitable for a particular inflatable because of something overhead. Our guide to hall ceiling heights for bouncy castles explains what to measure before you confirm the venue.

What If the Hall Has a Low Ceiling?

A lower ceiling does not automatically rule out an inflatable party. The answer may simply be choosing a different bouncy castle.

Our Low Height Bouncy Castles are intended for situations where overhead clearance needs more consideration. One option is the Blue Party Theme Bouncy Castle (10ft x 12ft), which can be worth considering for suitable indoor venues where a taller design would not fit.

Read our guide to low-height bouncy castles if you are unsure when this type of inflatable is useful.

What Should I Ask the Hall Before Booking?

Before paying a venue deposit, tell the venue that you intend to hire a bouncy castle. Do not assume that every hall permits inflatables simply because there appears to be enough room.

Useful questions include:

  • Are bouncy castles permitted inside the hall?
  • What is the usable floor area?
  • What is the lowest clear ceiling height?
  • Are there low beams, lights or other overhead fittings?
  • Is mains electricity available close to the setup area?
  • Is there clear access from the entrance to the room?
  • What time can the hire company enter to complete the setup?
  • When must all equipment be removed?

We have put these and other practical checks together in what to ask a venue before booking a bouncy castle party.

Does an Indoor Bouncy Castle Need Electricity?

Yes. The blower needs access to a standard mains power socket while the inflatable is in use. Jump N Joy Castles carries 25m extension leads as standard and can provide up to 50m where required, so let us know before the event if the available socket is further away from the proposed setup position.

The blower remains connected while the inflatable is operating. Keep the equipment and cable route clear of tables, chairs and areas where guests are likely to create an obstruction.

How Much Access Is Needed for Delivery?

There needs to be a clear route from the vehicle or venue entrance to the setup area. Our usual access requirement is at least 2.6ft wide, although some larger inflatables can require up to 3ft.

Tell us in advance if the venue has narrow doorways, stairs, long corridors or another restricted access point. It is far better to establish this before the party than find that the chosen equipment cannot be moved into the room.

Which Bouncy Castle Works Best for an Indoor Birthday?

The best choice depends on the room rather than simply choosing the biggest inflatable available.

For a straightforward children's birthday, one of our 12x12ft Bouncy Castles may provide the right balance of play space and manageable dimensions. Options include the Multi Coloured Party Theme Bouncy Castle (12ft x 12ft) and themed designs such as the 3D Jungle Bouncy Castle (12ft x 12ft).

Where the room is larger, families may also consider one of our 15x12ft Bouncy Castles, including bounce-and-slide designs. Always check the full product dimensions and available clearance rather than assuming a larger hall will accommodate every inflatable.

Can I Combine an Indoor Bouncy Castle with Soft Play?

Yes, provided there is enough room to create separate activity areas. This can work particularly well for a party attended by toddlers and older children.

Younger guests can use Multicoloured Soft play and Ball pit while older children have a suitable bouncy castle elsewhere in the hall. Our Party Packages can also be useful when you want several activities within one booking.

The important part is leaving sufficient room around each activity rather than filling every available metre of the venue with equipment.

What About Didi Cars at an Indoor Party?

Didi Cars can provide another indoor activity where the venue has a smooth, hard floor and enough clear room for children to ride them without passing through the bouncy castle or soft play area.

Think of the hall as several zones: bouncing in one area, toddler play in another, Didi Cars somewhere appropriate, then seating and refreshments away from the equipment. A sensible layout generally works better than trying to squeeze everything together.

Why Is Indoor Hire Useful When the Weather Is Poor?

Once your inflatable has been installed inside a suitable venue, your party is far less dependent on what is happening outside. Rain and wet ground become much less of a concern, which is one reason halls are particularly popular for birthdays during the colder months.

Where Can We Provide Indoor Bouncy Castle Hire?

Jump N Joy Castles supplies indoor party equipment throughout our usual delivery area. Families can arrange hire in Bath, Bristol and Chippenham, as well as Keynsham, Yate, Thornbury, Portishead, Bradley Stoke and other parts of South Gloucestershire.

If finding a hall is your next job, our venue guides can help too. We have information covering North Bristol venues, West Bristol, South Bristol and East Bristol, together with dedicated venue pages for several of our other delivery areas.

What Should I Do Before Making an Indoor Booking?

Before choosing your inflatable, collect three pieces of information: the usable floor dimensions, the clear ceiling height and details of the venue access. Confirm that inflatables are permitted and identify where the mains power supply is located.

Once you have those details, compare them with the requirements of the bouncy castle you would like to hire. If anything is unclear, ask before booking rather than relying on an estimate.
