Can You Hire a Bouncy Castle in the Rain?
Can You Hire a Bouncy Castle in the Rain?
British weather does not always cooperate with children's party plans. A forecast can change quickly, and one of the questions we are regularly asked is whether a bouncy castle can still be hired when rain is expected.
The short answer is that weather conditions matter. Jump N Joy Castles will not operate an inflatable outdoors when conditions are unsafe, including periods of heavy rain or high winds. Safety comes before keeping an outdoor booking in place.
If poor weather is expected, an indoor venue can provide a much more reliable alternative. This guide explains what rain can mean for your booking, what you should check before the day and which indoor options may help you keep the party going.
Can a Bouncy Castle Be Used Outside in Light Rain?
Weather decisions are not made simply by looking out of the window and deciding whether it feels wet. The overall conditions, ground, wind and forecast all matter.
If conditions become unsafe, the inflatable must not be used. Heavy rain is specifically one of the situations that can lead to a booking being cancelled for safety reasons.
If the forecast looks uncertain, do not assume that a rain cover or sheltered position makes every outdoor setup suitable. Contact us if you are concerned about the conditions for your booking.
What Happens If Heavy Rain Is Forecast?
If weather conditions are unsafe, including heavy rain or high winds, we may need to cancel the outdoor inflatable booking. Where Jump N Joy Castles cancels because of unsafe weather conditions, the £20 booking deposit is refundable.

Why Does Wet Weather Affect Outdoor Bouncy Castle Hire?
Rain affects more than whether children get wet. The condition of the setup area also matters.
Outdoor inflatables need a suitable grass surface and sufficient clear space for correct installation. Very wet ground may no longer provide suitable conditions for the planned setup.
If you are unsure about the surface in your garden, our guide to suitable bouncy castle setup surfaces explains the requirements in more detail.
Can You Move the Bouncy Castle onto a Patio If the Grass Is Wet?
No. We do not move outdoor inflatables onto concrete or other hard outdoor surfaces simply because the lawn is wet.
Our outdoor setups are carried out on suitable grass. Concrete, tarmac and similar hard outdoor surfaces are not used for our bouncy castle installations.
Artificial grass is also not an alternative for our outdoor setups. Read can bouncy castles go on artificial grass? if your garden has artificial turf.
What Is the Best Alternative When Rain Is Forecast?
An indoor venue removes most of the uncertainty surrounding an outdoor party. A suitable hall can accommodate a bouncy castle without relying on dry grass, and it also gives guests somewhere warm and dry to sit, eat and play.
Indoor hire still has its own requirements. You need enough usable floor space, sufficient ceiling height, mains power and suitable access for the equipment.
Our complete guide to indoor bouncy castle hire explains what parents should check before choosing a hall.
Which Bouncy Castles Could Work for an Indoor Party?
The best inflatable depends on the size and height of the venue. A smaller or lower-height bouncy castle may be easier to accommodate than one of the larger designs.
Product dimensions do not represent the full setup area required. Always check the individual product requirements and venue measurements before booking.
What If the Hall Has a Low Ceiling?
A hall can have plenty of floor space but still be unsuitable for a standard inflatable because of its ceiling height.
Low beams, lights and other fittings can reduce the usable clearance. In these situations, our Low Height Bouncy Castles may provide an alternative.
Read what height does a hall need for a bouncy castle? and our guide to low-height bouncy castles before choosing your indoor equipment.
Can Soft Play Replace a Bouncy Castle on a Rainy Day?
For babies and toddlers, soft play can be an excellent indoor option in its own right rather than simply a backup plan.

Indoor Soft Play & Ball Pit
Our Multicoloured Soft play and Ball pit costs £90 and provides an indoor activity for younger children.
It can work particularly well for first birthdays, toddler parties and family celebrations where an outdoor bouncy castle is not suitable.

Can You Have Several Indoor Activities Instead?
Yes, provided the venue is large enough. A rainy-day party can include a bouncy castle for older children, soft play for toddlers and Didi Cars on a suitable smooth, hard indoor floor.
Our Party Packages are also worth considering if you want several activities together.
Should I Book a Hall as a Backup?
If the party date is important and you do not want the event to depend on outdoor weather, booking an indoor venue from the outset can make planning easier.
Do not leave the hall choice until the last minute and assume your chosen outdoor inflatable will fit. The room needs to be checked for floor space, ceiling clearance, access and mains power.
Our guide to what you should ask a venue before booking a bouncy castle party provides a useful checklist.
How Do I Find an Indoor Venue?
We have venue information for several parts of our delivery area. Depending on where your party is taking place, you can look at halls and venues in Keynsham, Bath, Thornbury, Yate, Chippenham or Portishead.
For parties in Bristol, our venue information is divided into North Bristol, East Bristol, South Bristol and West Bristol, making it easier to find something close to home.
Always confirm current availability, room dimensions and inflatable policies directly with the venue.
What Should I Do If Rain Appears in the Forecast?
Wet Weather Checklist
- Do not assume the forecast will remain unchanged.
- Keep an eye on the conditions as your event approaches.
- Contact us if you are concerned about the suitability of an outdoor booking.
- Do not move the inflatable onto concrete, tarmac or artificial grass yourself.
- If you change to an indoor venue, provide the floor and ceiling measurements.
- Make sure the alternative venue permits inflatable equipment.
What About Autumn and Winter Birthdays?
Our outdoor inflatable season does not run from October to March, so parties during these months need to be planned around suitable indoor equipment and venues.
This can still leave plenty of choice, including bouncy castles, low-height inflatables, soft play and party packages.

Where Do We Provide Indoor and Outdoor Party Hire?
Jump N Joy Castles provides suitable party hire in Keynsham, Bristol, Thornbury and Bath, together with Yate, Portishead, Chippenham, Bradley Stoke and other parts of South Gloucestershire.
Whether outdoor hire is possible depends on the season, weather, surface and setup area. Indoor bookings depend on the venue measurements and access.
