The Complete Guide to Hiring a Bouncy Castle for the First Time
Hiring a bouncy castle for the first time should be straightforward, but there are a few things worth checking before you choose an inflatable. The size of your garden or hall, the setup surface, access, power, weather and the ages of the children can all affect which bouncy castle is suitable.
This guide takes you through the process from choosing an inflatable to getting ready for delivery. It also points you towards more detailed advice if you need help with measurements, indoor venues, weather or surfaces.
Step One: Decide Where the Bouncy Castle Will Be Used
Start with the location rather than the inflatable. A garden and an indoor hall have very different requirements.
For an outdoor booking, we need a suitable natural grass setup area with enough clear space around the inflatable. We do not install outdoor inflatables on concrete, tarmac, gravel or unsuitable artificial surfaces.
Our outdoor inflatable season runs outside the colder October to March period. If you are organising a birthday during autumn or winter, a suitable indoor venue is generally the option to consider. Our autumn and winter bouncy castle guide explains the seasonal choices in more detail.
If you already know the party will be indoors, read our complete indoor bouncy castle hire guide alongside this page.
Step Two: Measure the Space Properly
One of the most common mistakes is seeing a bouncy castle described as 12ft x 12ft and assuming a 12ft x 12ft space is sufficient. It is not. The stated dimensions describe the inflatable itself, and additional room is required for installation and safe use.
If you are using a garden, our garden measuring guide explains how to check the usable area and identify obstacles that could affect installation.
For a hall, use our indoor hall measuring guide. Indoor bookings require you to consider both floor dimensions and ceiling clearance.
Before Choosing a Bouncy Castle, Check:
- the usable length and width of the setup area;
- the surface or indoor flooring;
- ceiling height for an indoor booking;
- trees, sheds, furniture, lights, beams or other obstructions;
- the access route from the entrance to the setup area;
- the location of a suitable mains power socket.
Step Three: Choose the Right Size and Style
Once you know the available space, you can start comparing inflatables. You do not necessarily need the largest bouncy castle that will fit. A well-sized inflatable with plenty of clear room around it is usually a better choice than trying to fill every available part of the venue.
Some Bouncy Castles from Our Current Range
Prices shown are current listed hire prices and are subject to availability. Product measurements are not the total installation area required, so check the individual booking page before choosing an inflatable.
Step Four: Decide Whether You Want a Standard Bouncy Castle or a Slide
A standard bouncy castle is often enough for a children's birthday and can be easier to accommodate in a smaller space. If you have a larger setup area, one of our 15x12ft Bouncy Castles can provide both bouncing and sliding in the same inflatable.
The choice is not simply about price. Think about the number and ages of children attending, how much room you have and whether a simpler setup would work better for the party.
If you are comparing costs as well as features, our bouncy castle hire prices guide uses examples from our current range.
Step Five: Check the Surface for an Outdoor Booking
Tell us what surface the inflatable will be installed on when booking. For outdoor hire, our bouncy castles are set up on suitable natural grass. We do not install outdoor inflatables on concrete or other hard outdoor surfaces.
If you have artificial turf, do not assume that an inflatable can simply be installed on it. Read can bouncy castles go on artificial grass? before choosing your equipment.

Step Six: Check the Ceiling for an Indoor Booking
For indoor parties, measure upwards as well as along the floor. Ceiling lights, beams, suspended fittings and sports equipment can reduce the usable height of the room.
If the venue is low, one of our Low Height Bouncy Castles may be more appropriate than a standard design.
Our hall ceiling height guide explains what to look for, while our low-height bouncy castle guide explains when these inflatables can be useful.
Step Seven: Make Sure We Can Get the Equipment In
There needs to be a clear route between the entrance and the setup position. Our normal access requirement is at least 2.6ft wide, while some larger inflatables can require up to 3ft.
If the property or venue has a narrow side passage, steps, tight doorways or a long access route, tell us before booking. Access that looks adequate for people may not necessarily be suitable for transporting inflatable equipment.
Step Eight: Make Sure Mains Power Is Available
The blower needs a standard mains electricity supply. We carry 25m extension leads as standard and can provide up to 50m where required if we know in advance.
For an indoor venue, identify the socket before deciding where the inflatable will go. For a garden party, think about the distance from the setup area to the property.
Step Nine: Think About the Ages Attending
The birthday child's age is important, but so are the ages of the other guests.
If the party is mainly for babies and toddlers, Soft Play may be more appropriate than a bouncy castle. Our Multicoloured Soft play and Ball pit is designed to provide a separate indoor play area for younger children.
If you have toddlers and older children attending together, you can potentially create separate activity areas rather than expecting everyone to use the same equipment.
Soft play or bouncy castle: which is better for my child's party? can help if you are unsure which direction to take.
Can You Book Several Activities Together?
Yes. Our Party Packages are intended for celebrations where you want more than one type of entertainment.
Step Ten: Check the Weather if Your Party Is Outdoors
Weather conditions can affect whether an outdoor inflatable can be used safely. Do not rely on a forecast you checked several days earlier because conditions can change.
If rain is forecast, our guide to bouncy castle hire in the rain explains what you need to know. You can also read what happens if the weather is bad on the day of your hire? for more information about poor-weather bookings.
What Happens on the Day?
We deliver the equipment, install it and collect it after the hire. The setup area should be clear before we arrive so that the inflatable can be installed without unnecessary delay.
A responsible adult must supervise the inflatable while it is in use and follow the instructions provided. Children should use the equipment within the permitted limits for the particular inflatable.
What Does Bouncy Castle Hire Cost?
Our current range gives you an idea of the different price points. A low-height bouncy castle is listed at £90, several 12ft x 12ft designs are £100, bounce-and-slide options begin at £120, and larger or combined setups cost more.
The price includes setup and collection under the applicable delivery arrangements. Some locations further from the core service area may have an additional delivery charge.
